    Adding memory (optional) HINT: To purchase additional memory modules, see the accessories information packaged with your system or visit accessories.toshiba.com. Your computer comes with enough memory to run most of today’s popular applications. You may want to increase the computer’s memory if you use complex software or process large amounts of data.

    Installing a memory module Memory modules can be installed in the memory module slots on the base of the computer. You will need a small Phillips screwdriver for this procedure. If the computer has been running recently, the memory module(s) may be hot.
  • Page 30 Adding memory (optional) Click the Shut down button in the lower-right corner of the Start menu. The computer closes all open programs, shuts down the operating system, and then turns off. Unplug and remove any cables connected to the computer, including the AC adaptor.
  • Page 31 Place the screws and the cover in a safe place so that you can retrieve them later. Static electricity can damage the memory module. Before you handle the module, touch a grounded metal surface to discharge any static electricity you may have built up. Avoid touching the connector on the memory module or on the computer.

Slot B is the slot on the left-hand side. If only one memory module is to be installed, it must be installed in Slot A.

  • Page 42 Mobile computing To ensure that the battery maintains its maximum capacity, operate the computer on battery power at least once a month. The Lithium-Ion battery has no memory effect so it is not necessary to let the battery fully discharge each time. However, for better accuracy of the battery meter, it is helpful to fully discharge the battery periodically.
  • Page 43 TECHNICAL NOTE: The recharging of the battery cannot occur when your computer is using all of the power provided by the AC adaptor to run applications, features, and devices. Your computer's Power Options utility can be used to select a power level setting that reduces the power required for system operation and will allow the battery to recharge.

If you are working with a program that suddenly freezes all operations, chances are the program has stopped responding. You can exit the failed program without shutting down the operating system or closing other programs.

Make sure you attached the AC adaptor and power cord/cable properly or installed a charged battery. Press and hold the power button for at least 10 seconds. If you are using the AC adaptor, check that the wall outlet is working by plugging in another device, such as a lamp.
